Challenge
Generators with large turbo diesel engines exceeding 70 liters required a custom connection tool capable of sealing off large turbos and flanges as large as 18+ inches.
Project Goals
- Provide connection tools that were capable of handling the port size and connection profiles required by the customer.
- Provide a solution that was safe and ergonomic for operators.
- Provide connectors durable enough to safely accommodate the large pressure test in a high production environment.
Solution
FasTest provided several flange and turbo connection tools ranging in sizes. FasTest’s FEG connector series utilized a combination of cradle and push pin locking mechanisms powered by pneumatic actuation to allow the connection tools to seal effectively on a range of extremely large ports. FasTest was able to provide a “one stop shop” solution to several engines and generators across a range of sizes.
Results
The customer saw improved accuracy and safety of the engine test, but also significantly increased their production throughput and quality. Beyond this, FasTest drastically reduced the rig and de-rig time in between tests by providing connectors that were intuitive to the operators and easy to use. Since the introduction, these effective leak test connection tools have been adopted by factories globally. FasTest continues to assist this customer in driving consistent testing practices throughout the world.
