Challenge
Ammonia Is not compatible with commonly used brass valves and fittings. Alternative stainless steel valves are both cumbersome and expensive.
Project Goals
- Develop a compact access valve compatible with ammonia refrigerant
- Increase worker safety
- Develop a bleed tool for service technicians draining off “noncondensable” fluids
- Reduce overall system cost
Solution
To meet the customer’s project goals, FasTest developed a customized stainless-steel version of their CoreMax® valve and tooling system, as well as a low-cost stainless-steel bleed tool for technicians.
Results
After extensive development, internal testing, and field trials, the results demonstrated that the new CoreMax® system performed to specification and met all the customer’s design requirements. In addition, the CoreMax® significantly reduced the cost of the access ports vs. conventional stainless-steel valves.
