Application
A high-volume fill plant venting medical CO2 cylinders utilizing CGA 940 (CO2 gas) post valves on a large venting manifold, currently using twist on yoke-style connections.
Challenge
A high-volume fill plant identified cylinder venting as a significant bottleneck in their medical CO2 production utilizing CGA 940 post valves.
Project Goals
- Reduce time to connect and disconnect vent connectors.
- Eliminate ergonomic safety hazard of the existing screw down yoke-style connections.
Solution
FasTest’s MediMate connectors had been used in oxygen applications successfully for decades. FasTest engineers reviewed the application requirements and determined that with some small modifications to ensure fitment and performance, a modified MediMate was suitable for use with CO2. The pin configuration was updated to fit the CGA 940 specifications, and the seal materials were changed to EPDM for better CO2 performance.
Results
The new G940 connectors from FasTest significantly reduced venting cycle time and eliminated the ergonomic safety hazard. Time required to connct and disconnect the vent connectors significantly increased production efficiency. The process for connecting to CGA 940 cylinders no longer takes more time than the CGA 870 cylinders elsewhere in the plant where FasTest’s MediMate quick connectors were in use. Additionally, the operators are quite happy with the new FasTest G940 connectors’ speed and ease of use, and of course the reduced wear and tear on their wrists!
