Application
A dedicated High Purity Gas (HPG) fill line using twist-on style fill connectors that were slow to connect and disconnect and presented a potential ergonomic safety hazard to workers. Due to lower demand, the HPG line offered excess capacity running at only 2 – 3 racks filled per day.
Challenge
Adjacent Industrial Gas fill lines had been converted to quick-connect G580 connectors from FasTest to minimize cycle time and eliminate the ergonomic safety hazard. Even with the resulting increase in racks filled per day, the Industrial Gas fill lines were at maximum capacity running 8 – 10 racks filled per day. Since HPG requires the extra step of pulling a high vacuum (200 millitorr) to purge impurities prior to filling, the existing G580 was not a viable solution.
Solution
FasTest engineers worked with the customer’s engineers to develop a modified G580 with a vacuum-optimized internal piston seal that provided the necessary sealing for both vacuum purge and high-pressure fill conditions.
Results
The new HPG580 connector from FasTest significantly reduced fill cycle time and eliminated the ergonomic safety hazard for the HPG fill line. Since it was also suitable for use with Industrial Gas filling, the customer was able to utilize the excess capacity to fill an additional 6 – 7 racks of Industrial Gas per day.
